I haven't posted on the forums before, but as I have been told by many that my Incubus is a force to be reckoned with, I figured I should put my expertise behind my words to ensure that constructive conversation goes on, rather than general, offensive/destructive complaining.
As mentioned previously, I am an assault ship pilot, and I also dislike the new camera angle. While many people say that the camera too far back, the anchoring point is now the nose of the ship, rather than the center of it as it was before. Having a centrally fixed rotation point gives a feeling of control over your vehicle because the cameras rotation point was the same as the vehicles rotation point. With the camera mounted in the front, I can't see the point where my changes take effect. It's like driving a car with rear wheel steering, while being on the very front of it. Before, I felt like I was in control of my vehicle, and could get it to do what I wanted/needed it to do, but now I feel confused when flying because I no longer have that direct relationship with my change in vision, and change in motion. Also, the new camera angle doesn't allow me to see my whole vehicle which has 2 effects. I have lost the feeling of the dimensions of my vehicle, and I can't see my thrusters. Knowing my dimensions allows me to know where I am in adjacent to the obstacles I fly close to. As it takes time for your thrusters to rotate into position, you need to see what they were doing to know when to apply your thrust. Both seeing your entire vehicle, and tracking your thrusters' positions were essential to precision control, which is in turn essential for being an effective assault ship pilot. Lastly, the new angle interferes with using my afterburners. It causes my ship to take up the entirety of the screen, and I can't see where I'm going which is dangerous to my ship both in avoiding obstacles, and avoiding enemy fire.
In summation, it feels as though I am fighting against my ship, rather than controlling it, and that isn't very fun. I agree that the previous system made it hard to shoot an assault ships main weapon, and the new angle allows me to see my targets better, but it makes flying significantly harder. I would like to request that you add an option change the camera angle back to the previous one. As a solution to not being able to see below you when in an assault ship, I propose making the craft translucent when you are looking down. Then you can still see your craft while piloting, while also be able to see your targets for better shooting. In the mean time I might try flying some more, but I think I'll be grounded until the 1.5 update adjusts vehicles further.
P.S. As another request, I ask that when you do do 1.5 Please ensure that above all else, if I need to withdraw in my galente armor vehicles, please make sure that it doesn't take too long to regain my armor. I know you don't want armor regeneration to be a big factor in combat, but if I fight for 10 seconds, but have to remain out of the battle for more than 30 seconds, it makes it very boring to be in a vehicle. Engagements can be often be very brief, and if after a 10 second 2 tank showdown, the survivor has to spend more more than 30 seconds waiting to be ready to engage again, it then the cost of engaging is lengthy inaction. Whether it a car, a tank, or a dropship, I don't want to spend so much time waiting, I wanna use them to assault the enemy. Anti-vehicle weapons often force me to retreat as it is, often unless they are very weak, and even if they don't destroy my vehicle, they remove me from the action for a while, and it makes it boring to use them. Find a way so that AV weapons can be useful, but that vehicles, which are many times more expensive, don't get obliterated, or have to cower/be recalled at their first sight. |
